About the Department
The department of French was established in 1944.This is the only college affiliated to University of Pune that offers French as a
Special subject. We have various activities organised for our students every year and have designed an enriching curriculum for our general as well as special students.
The French Exchange program has always been the highlight of our department. Every alternate year we choose students from our department to go for an academic exchange to France in the month of May, they stay with French families , attend classes with their French correspondants and visit various places.

The French department started the academic year 2014-2015 with a resolution to become a leading centre of excellence. We broke the record by having 12 students enroll for the French special programme and more than 60 students enrolling for the beginners’ course. We had various new activities, both curricular and extracurricular initiated by our enthusiastic students.
This year too we intend to help our students excel in every aspect of their journey to becoming exceptional French speakers.Programs / Courses Offered

1.Annual Prize Distribution in August :
Toppers of Junior college and Senior college are awarded prizes and certificates.
2.Singing Competition in French in September for Junior and Senior College.
3.Department Festival in January.

We invite differnt French language specialists to give guest lectures pertaining to French Grammar, Writing, History,Philosophy and Literature in every academic year.

- Smt. Jaya Gadgil conducted a new experiment by using the technology of “Whats app” to strike an exchange between the students of Fergusson and that of France to improve oral communication skills. This project which was of a month long duration was highly appreciated by students of both countries and was a resounding success and was also lauded by the French embassy as an innovative teaching technique and an interview regarding the project can be seen on the site: www.salledesprofs.org.

A pedagogical board game “BON VOYAGE” under CPE was
developed by students to hone linguistic, civilization and
historical knowledge of France. The game was based on the
syllabus and proved to be effective for revision before the
exams for all the students.
