The objectives of the scheme are as follows:

  • To strengthen the academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching and training.
  • To enhance the quality of the learning and teaching process to stimulate original thinking through ‘Hands On” exposure to experimental work and participation in Summer Schools.
  • To promote networking and strengthen ties with neighbouring institutions and other laboratories.
  • To conduct specialized training programmes for the faculty improvement for optimizing technical capabilities.
  • To increase capabilities of core instrumentation resources by procuring new equipment and upgrading of existing facilities.
  • To provide access and exposure to students to research laboratories and industries in the country.
  • To help in devising standard curricula and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)/ kit’s fro practicals.
  • To provide better Library facility to students and teachers.

The College had submitted a proposal for the STAR College scheme to DBT. It was decided by the Expert Committee to support the following departments:

  1. 1.      Biotechnology
  2. 2.      Chemistry
  3. 3.      Electronic Science
  4. 4.      Microbiology
  5. 5.      Physics
  6. 6.      Zoology

The Expert Committee sanctioned onetime Non Recurring Grant of Rs. 5.00Lakhs and Recurring Grant of Rs. 2.00Lakhs per year for a period of three years, in the first phase.
