- Department History:
With the largest young population in the world the major challenge before our country is to make them employable. Joining hands with National Skill Development Corporation HRD Ministry has come up with a new programme to promote skill development Bachelor of Vocation. The main focus of this degree is to provide hands on training while educating the new generation with the specific aim of making them industry-ready.
In keeping with the tradition of being in tune with time, Fergusson College has introduced two vocational degree courses. The college started these courses in the academic year 2014-2015. These courses are under the scheme launched by the UGC. This is a scheme on skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree with multiple exits such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).
- Department Highlights:
The B.Voc.programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles and their National Occupational Standards (NOSs) along with broad based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc. to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.
Under the National Skills Development Corporation, many Sector Skill Councils representing respective industries have/are being established. One of the mandates of Sector Skill Councils is to develop National Occupational Standards (NOSs) for various job roles in their respective industries. It is important to embed the competencies required for specific job roles in the higher education system for creating employable graduates.
The B. Voc. Programme is a judicious mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of General Education. It ensures that the students have adequate knowledge and skills, so that they are work ready at each exit point of the programme. The programme provides flexibility to the students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points. A student will be awarded a Diploma after first year, Advanced Diploma after the second year and the B.Voc. degree after the third year of successful completion.
At the end of the first year students will be able to work as trained assistants in a project. The second year they will be able to take some independent responsibility of a project. The third year will be to train them as a professional who can take the complete responsibility of the project.

Bachelor of Vocation - Media and Communication is perfectly in tune with the national mission. With the advent of digital technology the availability of media is anywhere and everywhere. The media industry like news, entertainment, advertising, public relations and event management is booming like never before all over the world.
The Media industry is one of the most blooming sectors today. It requires influx of young creative innovative brains, with over-whelming energy, equipped with media skills every year.
B.Voc. Media and Communication offers one of its own kind opportunities to the 12th grade pass students (H.S.C.) of any stream to pursue this enticing career option. The most unique quality of this programme is that after successful completion of first two semesters the student will get a diploma, after fourth semester an advanced diploma and after sixth semester a bachelor degree. The idea is very clear that after every two semesters the student should be industry-ready with at least two media related skills along with professional and ethical understanding of that specific vertical of the media industry.
The B. Voc. Programme is a credit based programme with a total of 180 credit points over a span of three years. (60 credit points per year.) The programme is run with two components, the General Education component and the Skilled component.
The General Education component is designed to develop language skills, computer literacy, and general awareness about the social, the political and the economic systems in the country. Legal and ethical issues involved in the fields of Media and Animation are also discussed in this component. A total of 84 credit points (28 credit points per year) are allotted for the General Education component. This includes 4 credit points per year for the field work.
The availability of creative and skilled human power full of zeal and enthusiasm will be an asset to not only for Indian Media but also for International Media.
The students passing 10+2 or equivalent can apply for this course. Admissions will be purely on merit basis.
